Is our vision to stop global warming?

Yes, but we like to think big. So there’s a lot more.

Many businesses have a green angle. Every company wants to check the ESG box. Even bamboo toilet paper claims to save the world. Why can’t we just be normal, make regular old battery management systems that are just a smidge better, and call it a day? 

Why did we risk getting blank stares to talk about software-defined technologies and predictive analytics 7 years ago before they were on nobody’s radar except for the nerdiest of nerds?

It’s because Tanktwo didn’t start as a battery company. We’re visionaries, technologists, innovators, engineers, and problem-solvers: Wranglers of the impossible. We saw the dots and connected them to solve problems that needed to be addressed yesterday. 

We landed on electrification — making it sustainable and profitable isn’t just about the battery. It’s a multidisciplinary solution that involves electrochemical processes, electronics, logic, algorithms, software, and many other aspects. Nobody has combined all these before into battery packs or battery management systems. 

Let’s think big. Like, advancing humanity big; Flipping Maslow’s hierarchy big; A 100-year horizon big.

It turns out that just a few critical technologies have powered massive changes in the past century were powered. They fall into only two categories — the superhuman software and the superhuman hardware (yes, I made them up.)

The superhuman software disseminates information and feeds the mind: literacy, computing, the internet, etc.

The superhuman hardware takes care of the physical aspects: mechanization, transportation, healthcare, etc.

Surprisingly, just a few pivotal technologies are responsible for the vast impact, such as material science and electrification. We need electricity for virtually every modern activity — mechanizing manufacturing, broadcasting, communication, computing, powering medical devices to save lives… you get the idea.

But what’s so exciting is that we see two new technological categories emerging, and both will further the impact and expand the application of electrification:

  • Energy storage: It untethers us from power sources, so electrification and mobility will no longer be at odds. Plus, it makes electrification the only viable solution for climate change mitigation. 

  • Scalable computing: It helps manage the exponentially growing amount of information humanity produces and turn it into insights to accelerate the benefits of superhuman software and hardware.

We are at the moment in history where electrification, energy storage, and scalable computing converge. The powerful combo will not only solve our climate and geopolitical crises. Advances in efficiency will open up many doors and address environmental, social, and economic issues directly and indirectly. 

Our technology will enable access to electricity-powered technologies at an affordable cost — democratizing many electric devices and equipment at an unprecedented scale with life-changing consequences for a large population. 

And we must do it here and now.

The diamond of prominence, which illustrates the lifecycle of maturing technology, shows how we’re at this critical turning point with electrification:

  1. This is the point where discovery and innovation happen. The cost of producing one unit is high, and the production doesn’t scale. Very few people are aware of the technology.

  2. Here, the technology has reached maximum awareness. It’s perceived as cutting-edge — it’s in the news, people talk about it, and companies scramble to get onto the bandwagon. The cost of production starts to drop (albeit still high) as it begins to scale up. 

  3. Finally, the technology becomes utilitarian. It’s just part of our life. Like today’s smartphone — we don’t think twice about using it. The cost has become accessible, and companies can produce the technology at scale profitably.

Electrification is at the pivotal point of maximum awareness (#2). To turn the corner, we must reduce costs, increase efficiency, and scale solutions. Tanktwo’s data-driven, software-defined battery solution is the catalyst to fulfill the potential and promises of electrification.
